Personal project

One of the perks of being a graphic designer and illustrator is that I have the ability to drive my own personal projects. This one is an illustrated alphabet book for the little people in my family. It's a slow work-in-progress (clients always come first!), but the goal is to illustrate A to Z with bold and bright illustrations that engage young minds. The accompanying poems I am writing are designed to provide a laugh not only for children, but grown-ups too. The letters will explore a mixture of the silly and non-sensical, as well as important issues and ideas.

I plan to self-publish the book for wider sale through the Blurb platform.

A

A is for an anchovy whose name was Abigail
Her home was the sea, til she was snagged on the tail
By a fisherman with a hook, who was running rather late
To put dear Abigail on his wife's dinner plate

B

B is for butter, of the kind most posh we spread
But out snack was rather dull, until our mother said,
"Get a jar of sprinkles, and shake them overhead
And in a little jiffy, you'll have some fairy bread."

C

C is for camp, which is what you do in a tent
But it's also a word for a very pretty gent.
The Gent has a beard, an a colourful turban
And a nose finely crafted by a talented surgeon

D

D is for a doll, all mint in her box
She is from the 80s and she wears pretty frocks
But if you take her out, her value will reduce
So enjoy her from afar and never let her loose

E

E is for an egg who is not called Humpty Dumpty
Because this egg didn’t fall like an inelegant numpty
This one sits in a cup, all proud and fitting,
Next to some soldiers who’re ready for a dipping

F

F is for a family, who are all very happy
Here are two mummies, who dress rather snappy
And here are their kids, not the human variation
But two cute furries who bring love to the equation

G

G is for a garden, in front of a house
With blooming flowers and a home for a mouse
The mouse is snuffling for a snack in the leaves
Can you see it? The block of Gruyère cheese?
