DJ Charlie Villas is one of Sydney’s best loved DJs. Playing to sell-out crowds at some of Sydney’s biggest parties, including Mardi Gras and Heaps Gay, her visual identity is an important part of her marketing. The brief I was given for her new logo and website was “Keith Haring meets Blue Note Records meets old 1980s hip hop flyers.”

I love working with clients who present me with interesting challenges, and I enjoyed bringing these three design styles into a single cohesive look. I delivered this through lettering formed with brush strokes, 80s hip hop inspired shapes, and some iconic Keith Haring style flourishes. Those shapes and flourishes formed the basis for the visual elements across the website, and the overall aesthetic was further emphasised through lo-fi typography,  a three-colour palette, as well as some fun animated gifs.
