Food & Words festival
Food & Words Festival is an annual festival celebrating food writing and publishing. It is held annually at The Mint in Sydney, and is presented in partnership with Sydney Living Museums. To keep the branding fresh, the organisers commission a different artist each year to respond to the festival themes. 2018 was all about producers and growers, and my brief was to communicate that in a colourful and elegant way.
For the festival's main hero image, I created an imaginary animal by splicing a cow, a lamb, a fish and a pig, and putting them on the spines of books. This central idea was then expanded to create other imaginary animals for the program, and animations for instagram. I also took the furs and skins of the animals and created unique and colourful repeat patterns to give the program's internal pages some colour.

THE FESTIVAL PROGRAM
Experimental flip book
The program I produced was designed to be an interactive talking piece. On the first few pages, ticket holders could could flip the spiral-bound spliced pages to create various animals. The internal pages held the important speaker information, but also doubled as a notebook, and contained lined pages for each session. The back page served as the ticket to the festival. To bring some colour into the program, I created repeat patterns from the animal skins and furs, which were then used to complement the information.
