BIG hART, PLAN INTERNATIONAL
For this project, I collaborated on an intercultural initiative led by Big hART called Storytime and Play. This program brought together Big hART Australia, Plan International, and Pacific nations to foster cultural storytelling between parents and children. My contribution was creating a vibrant and engaging intro animation for a children’s TV series produced and filmed in Niue.
Aiming to teach children about cultural heritage, the animation follows an uga crab on a colourful journey around the island, exploring the modern and traditional village names of Niue. The illustrations used in the animation were drawn by children from Niue during workshops facilitated by Big hART, and are full of the imagination and creativity that children’s drawings tend to possess. I worked to preserve the charm of these original drawings while subtly unifying them with a vibrant palette, hand-drawn textures, and humorous looping movements—ensuring the final product remained true to the illustrations’ playful, wobbly essence.
Accompanied by the catchy song, the animation aims to captivate young audiences and make learning fun. It’s a celebration of Niuean culture through the eyes of its children—full of energy, imagination, and joy.
CELEBRATING CHILDREN’S CREATIVITY

The animation features the children’s original drawings.
While unified with a cohesive colour palette and hand-drawn textures, it was important for me to keep the adult lens to a minimum, and maintain the spirit and creativity of the original illustrations. Roll over the images below to see the original drawings.

Using lettering made by a young person in Niue, I developed a font to display the village names in the video. Roll over image to see the young person’s original lettering artwork.
